Biden Faces Scrutiny Over ‘More Focused Than Fly’ Comment

1970s pimp SuppaFly Jones rejects former president’s claim: “Ain’t nobody been more focused than Fly.”

WASHINGTON — Former President Joe Biden faced renewed criticism Monday after an old remark in which he described himself as “more focused than Fly” resurfaced online, drawing an immediate rebuke from retired 1970s pimp SuppaFly Jones.

“Ain’t nobody been more focused than Fly,” Jones said from his Las Vegas home, speaking beneath a framed photograph of himself leaning against a 1976 Cadillac Eldorado. “Joe can say what he wants about experience, leadership, whatever. But focus? That’s Fly territory.”

Jones, known simply as “Fly” to friends, associates and several members of the Clark County vice squad during the 1970s, said Biden’s comment reflected a broader tendency among politicians to make sweeping claims without consulting the people most directly affected.

“Nobody called Fly,” Jones said. “Nobody asked Fly. They just went out there and said Joe was more focused than Fly.”

The controversy began after a clip of Biden’s remark circulated widely on social media over the weekend, prompting renewed debate over exactly which Fly the former president had intended to surpass.

A Biden spokesperson declined to clarify whether the former president had been referring to Jones, an actual insect, or simply using a figure of speech.

Jones said the distinction was irrelevant.

“Man said Fly,” he said. “Fly heard him.”

Former associates described Jones as extraordinarily attentive during his professional prime.

“He was always focused,” said longtime friend Darryl “Peaches” Watkins. “You could have music playing, people yelling, cops outside — didn’t matter. Fly knew exactly what was going on.”

Jones said he has no personal animosity toward Biden and would welcome an apology, though he stopped short of demanding one.

“I respect the man,” Jones said. “But sometimes you gotta stay in your lane.”

Asked whether age had diminished his legendary concentration, the 79-year-old Jones paused, adjusted the brim of his hat and stared silently across the room for several seconds.

“Fly still focused,” he said.
